SIRRI

Readytowear store

"Sirri" is the link between the shepherd and the sheep, the way the sheep calls the flock! The idea behind this family business, created in 2000 by Arni and Karin Brattaberg, is to use the natural resources available in the Faroe Islands to create a unique product, 100% organic and 100% Faroese, without mixing with other wools and whose colours are only based on vegetable dyes. Elsewhere, beware, many sweaters are imported from Norway, check the label if you want a genuine product.

H. N. JACOBSENS BÓKAHANDIL

Shopping mall

A visit to this beautiful and huge building around a courtyard is a must: the oldest bookshop in the Faroes and one of the oldest shops still in operation. It was opened in 1865 by the bookbinder Hans Nicolai Jacobsen, father of Jakob Jakobsen (1864-1918), one of the most important Faroese philologists. The present shop is a labyrinth of books, of course, but also souvenirs, crockery, dolls, video games, etc.

SMS

Shopping mall

For a long time, the heart of Tórshavn was the harbour and the city centre. This is no longer quite true today with the SMS Shopping Center. All wood and glass built, with sloping roofs and a monumental fountain in the middle, it is organized on two floors, with a large area occupying most of the ground floor. You can find snacks for your hikes or stock up on local beer, and find a few Scandinavian brands that have never been seen in France (Nomi jewellery, Name It clothes or the florist Fípan).

LEIKALUND

Bookshop

An old bookshop where you can buy many CDs of Faroese music. It is also a beautiful gallery where you can drink tea served by the very friendly owners. In the past, this was the only shop in the Northern Islands, opened in 1838 and known as Klaksvíkshandilin. It was at the time of the Danish royal trade monopoly. Today, concerts and art exhibitions are also held in this fascinating place. And if you want to take home a piece of Faroese culture, you will also find local jewellery.
