THE CHURCH OF ST. MARTIN D'UNVERRE

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

Previously the possession of clunisiens monks was built in the th and th centuries. Of Romanesque origin, the successive restorations of which it was the subject (especially in the th century, during which most of the percherons religious buildings were enlarged by the construction of a north-side formé with five-pignons alignment) give it a strange charm. Admire its glazed voûte and the quality of its religious art furniture dating from the th and th centuries.

THE CASTLE AND THE CHURCH

Castles to visit

Only a moat separates the castle of the Saint-Lubin church. The buildings and the park that stretches behind were built between the th and th centuries. Following an unusual architecture in the region, the church presents a series of stained glass windows telling the story of Saint Lubin, the former bishop of Chartres. By entering the gardens of the castle, the surprise continues with canals, where Coule flows, separating the grassland from the building. Bridges regularly allow crossing the river. An amazing place to see.

Contact the Chevallier-Debeausse Foundation for permission to enter the property. With entry, it is the only remaining remnant of the feudal castle. The chapel Saint-Nicolas of the castle and the church Notre-Dame were covered with frescoes under the impetus of Florimond Robertet, Treasurer of France and Secretary of Finance under François I, when he bought the castle in 1505 and began to restore it. Because before, it was on this place that the fish was sold, as evidenced by the salmon carved in the wood, on the facade of the imposing half-timbered building. Now the tourist office has created a didactic area where you can watch movies on Chartres on the ground floor, visit temporary exhibitions on the first floor, or attend seminars and conferences on the second floor.
