GUIDED TOUR " CHARTRES EN LUMIÈRES PRIVILÈGE " (CHARTRES IN LIGHTS PRIVILEGE)

Themed tours and activities
5/5
4 reviews

Magic. This guided tour is in many ways. Born of a brilliant idea, this two-time night visit brings light to honour. During the first part, it is with Gilles Fresson, a co-ordinating officer with the Rector of the Cathedral, that you are invited to rediscover the building… in the light of candles. Thus you wander through the crypts then in the silent cathedral and dive in the darkness as if you were pilgrims of the Middle Ages. During the visit, Gilles Fresson tells you the history, legends and mysteries surrounding the cathedral. Then you get out of the building and you turn off candles to enjoy, in a second part and a guide from the tourist office, some of the sites illuminated in the context of "Chartres in Enlightenment". The scenes of this festival, its technical aspects and the artistic work of Xavier de Richemont (author of the lighting Designs) will no longer have secrets for you… In sum, during this visit you will learn to see the cathedral and the city otherwise, and you will leave with stars full of eyes.

THE PARK OF THE CASTLE

Castles to visit
5/5
1 review

The castle does not visit, but you can enjoy a pleasant stroll in its park, in the shadow of the many centuries-old trees that make it up. On your way you can meet deer, donkeys, peacocks, lower court animals… a playground for children makes it an ideal place for families. As for the castle, it is the site of a fortress built in the th century. In the th century, a castle of feudal type was substituted and destroyed under the French Revolution. A bourgeois house replaces it between 1822 and 1860. Eugene Mesquite made a large house Louis XIII, decorated with Renaissance motifs.

SAINT-LUBIN CHURCH

No doubt, Voves is one of the leaders of the Beauce region! To confirm, wheats are forged on the monumental door of the church of the commune erected at the end of the th century. This is one of the peculiarities of this building, which is in the middle of the village. Other remarkable elements: the visible visible when entering the church. As a representative of the characters of the Bible, it offers superb colours on the nave which is to the choir and the wooden columns that stretch behind the altar. In the lateral chapel, a large fresco representing Christ attracts the visitor's eye.

Chartres, the frescoes of Bel-Air

Street square and neighborhood to visit
4.5/5
4 reviews

This path leads you to Bel-Air frescoes. It took nine months for the six artists to get close to 4000 m 2 of walls. A huge piece of work that has restored life to this once grey quarter. Now place shimmering colours in the form of various trompe: the first fresco is inspired by the city centre architecture with wooden houses; the second work includes the theme of the Beauce identity with a large wheat mowing scene; a third achievement reveals a magnificent representation of stained glass windows; and finally the fourth presents the perfume.

CITY TOUR

Hiking
4/5
2 reviews

Guided tours of the city take place in summer. Contact the Tourist Office. In the summer there are night visits in the light of the torchlight where the construction of Chartres's city will be told with force animations and almost historic reconstructions. Please contact the Tourist Office. You can also leave in the old town of Chartres with a specified course. On a rocky spur overlooking the Loir, the city is built under the shelter of the mighty castle and church of Madeleine whose oldest origins date back to the th century, and still has a Romanesque architecture of the th century. The medieval neighborhoods encircle the castle. «The old districts», as they are readily named, are the remains of the Renaissance de la Renaissance, which is saved by the fire that destroyed most of the city in 1723. Through the streets and streets, we discover a beautiful range of half-timbered houses with richly carved doors. Classical town planning is ordered around the square of 18-October -1870.

NOTRE-DAME-D'YRON CHAPEL

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
4/5

The chapel was founded in the early th century by the lords of Montigny. It was from here in 1212 that the crusade of children led thousands of teenagers to issue the Holy Land. At the head of the crusade, a little shepherd from Cloyes named Etienne. Splendid frescoes of the th and th centuries decorate the whole. You will admire two almost unique scenes such as the adoration of the mages and the flogging of Christ.

THE GREAT MILL

Monuments to visit
4/5
1 review

In the Beauce plain, it is easy to locate a monument 10 metres high! Between the turbines that are very numerous in this area of the south-east of the department, the Great mill of Ouarville has been required in the landscape since the th century. It still works, supplied by farmers in Beauce, and produces bakes to the local mills. During the visits, the mechanism of the wheels is explained, as well as that of the wings that can change their size in the light of the wind. And from the second floor of the mill, it is possible to take a look at the Beauce and, if time is discovered, to see the arrows of the cathedral.

SAINT-AIGNAN CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
4/5
1 review

If Saint-Via was Bishop of Chartres at the beginning of the fifth century, nothing remains of the préromane church that was there at the time, destroyed by successive fires. The church that can be seen today was built in the th century, in Gothic architecture towards the Renaissance. If this church is worth the detour, it is for its turret connected to the building by a driving rig, but also for its interior frescoes dating back to 1866: Green, red, yellow and gold blend in harmoniously.
