CHAPEL OF ST. ANNE

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
4.3/5
4 reviews

In the middle of the 13th century, there was a religious building on the site of Saint Anne's chapel. A new building was constructed between 1450 and 1475, and was replaced in 1729 and 1770. A complete renovation of the interior was carried out in 1962 with the instauration of the Sainte-Anne forgiveness festival on July 26th each year. Its architecture is very simple: 18.40m long and 6.20m wide, a semi-circular main door and a unilateral door, squares, six semi-circular windows and a solid roof. Its interior is very original: superb Italian marble altar and sculptors of which one of the tables represents the port in 1777 with the pier of Priauté and some Newfoundland schooners.

THE GALLIC VILLAGE

Archaeological site
3.9/5
8 reviews

It seems that the village of Asterix is located in Côtes-d'Armor. Would it be that one? Not really, but built as part of the building of young volunteers, it has benefited from the archaeological discoveries made in the region. You can discover the life of our ancestors the Gallic and, above all, participate in the Gaulympiades, such as the race of the menhir driver or the maritime contests. Attention, nothing to do with the famous Parc Asterix near Paris, and rather aimed at the youngest. Here, pedagogy and quiet games are the program. In order to benefit from all the free activities offered in the park and the picnic era, a modest entrance fee was required. Be aware that this money will be used for humanitarian purposes, for the development of schools in Togo in Africa. More than 50 000 euros have been collected since 1996, allowing for 3300 children to be enrolled in 10 villages.

2 reviews

The Christian Gad and Daniel Chhé sculpture park (named after the two granite workers who initiated it) presents 18 majestically carved sculptures in granite, raw or polished, pink or grey. Produced by various artists during two symposiums, in 1998 and 2007, they are of various styles and represent Breton legends (Ankou, Dahud...) or creative work (Le Repos du couleur, Le Sculpteur et sa création...). It is not a museum, so you can touch the works. You can then continue the walk on the Customs path.

CAPE FREHEL LIGHTHOUSE

Monuments to visit
3.8/5
8 reviews

Sensations guaranteed! The lighthouse (145 steps), built in 1950, is actually the third building. The first was suggested by Vauban in 1694. It was lited up in 1702 and only during winter months. In 1774, a lamppost with 60 spherical reflectors replaced the inferno. Placed in a lantern, this system started working in 1821. The range of its fire ranged from 15 to 21 miles. The second lighthouse was built around 1840, dues to the state of the building. The project is a new 22 m high octagonal tower which can support a Fresnel optic. The range of fire went up to 25 miles. The electrification plans of 1880 were abandonned following a ministerial decision. During the Second World War, the lighthouse is used as an observation post for the German army who destroyed the building on August 11, 1944. Only the old Vauban tower remained standing and supported a temporary fire until 1950. The current lighthouse, the third, was built from 1950. It uses a xenon arch lamp; the size of its fire varies from 200 m (very thick fog) to 120 km (good weather). At the top, you find yourself at more than 100 metres above sea level. In clear weather, you can be at 100 km! It is one of the most powerful lighthouses in France, it has been classified as a historical monument in 2011.

It is one of the highest places on the coast, which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding coastline. Very uneven, the point of Bihit is formed of a very resistant and ancient rock, gneiss 2 billion years old, one of the oldest rocks in Europe. Grey and sharp, it differs completely from the young granite, pink and round, which forms the island Milliau, its neighbor. You can extend the walk towards the fine sandy beach of Pors Mabo, facing south. You will then pass in front of the Roche mignonne, planted in the water.

Its ruins let us see the importance of the building, erected from the th to the th centuries. The tower kept its tower, and three of the arcades of the nave. Callac and Botmel are branches of the former primitive parish of Plusquellec. Callac was, it seems, the name of a chapel at the parish of Botmel dedicated to Saint Catherine. Botmel was in the th and th centuries annoyed or a branch of Plusquellec.

BRIDGE SUSPENDED

Works of art to see
4/5
1 review

This cable-stayed bridge is remarkable for its architectural quality. Built between 1833 and 1840, its original purpose was to replace the ferries linking the two banks of the Trieux. This first wooden deck was replaced in 1925 by a more modern and safer metal suspension bridge, according to the plans of the French engineer Gaston Leinekugel Le Cocq. Traffic was not even interrupted: the new deck was built under the old one, which was dismantled once the work was completed. The current structure is 154 metres long.

Hotel des Ducs de Bretagne, also called Maison du Chapeau Rouge (1572) is located around the Louis Guilloux square. This former Renaissance inn has fireproof walls and half-timbered sculptures in friezes: lion heads, helmeted reiters, ovum and gadroons. You can see a griffin, animal from Antiquity (half eagle-half lion) which has become the emblem of the town of Saint-Brieuc, it watches over the street and protects the inhabitants. According to legend, it is said to have housed famous and royal travellers, like Jacques II Stuart in 1689 or the great duke and the great duchess of Russia, in 1782. It is a private property.

The Rosédo Lighthouse is set on the Rosédo land, north of the Bréhat Island. Historically, its alignment with its twin the lighthouse of the Peacock, enabled sailors to avoid the Horaine pitfall, located off the Paon tip! You will also find in this place a semaphore dating back to 1862. The first Rosédo lighthouse was built in 1858 and lit in 1860 as a fixed red light; the current lighthouse was built between 1947 and 1949. It consists of a rectangular turret with a round face; it was automated in 2007.

CORONG POND

Natural Crafts
4/5
1 review

Also called Lake Glomel, it extends over seventy-five hectares less than a mile from the village centre. Created in the Middle Ages, its dam was built in the nineteenth century, to store sufficient body of water so that, whatever the season, the proper functioning of the canal from Nantes to Brest can continue. Located in the community, its highest point, the summit pond between the catchment Blavet and that of Alder, is always the most difficult part of the work to supply during the dry season. Very pleasant tree-lined site, it is ideal for summer swimming and a number of water activities such as dinghy or kayak and various outdoor activities ideal for family vacation.
