LE FUMOIR DE SAINT-CAST

Specialized grocery
4/5
1 review

The Fumoir de Saint-Cast is above all the story of a man who is passionate about cooking, but especially about smoked fish and shellfish, namely Wilfrid Quinveros. The specialty of the house? Scallops smoked with beechwood sawdust and oak chips from Scotch whisky barrels. There are also haddock smoked at low temperature, semi-cooked smoked mackerel, smoked trout from the Pyrenees, salmon from Scotland, Isigny and Cherbourg. The chef works with fishermen from the port of Saint-Cast and has his own workshop in Hénanbihen. We love it!

A local institution, Ty'Papo has its own store on the port of Erquy, in addition to the one in Val-André. This artisan ice-cream maker doesn't rest in the summer. And with good reason: his handcrafted ice creams - 75 flavors - are exquisite, made with natural fruit purées and raw milk from the farm. The plain or chocolate cookie cones are crisp and crunchy. Among the recipes, brownie and caramelized pecans, cheesecake and strawberry pieces, and pure-butter Breton palet and Madagascar vanilla are at the top of the list. Futé: the ice cream tub to go!

The Place Du-Guesclin and the Place du Champs-Clos are filled with the usual merchants: vegetables, fish, meats, cheeses, breads, ciders, sausages, but also hats, shoes, clothes, jewelry and bags. The place is very busy and it is important to plan to park a little further away, at the foot of the castle or in the nearby residential area. Don't forget to visit La Cohue, Dinan's market place, open from Tuesday to Sunday. Local products are yours!

This artisan chocolate maker is a goldsmith of cocoa. In fact, his shop in the heart of Saint-Brieuc looks like a jewellery store. The pralines are exquisite, as are the ganaches, the caramel bubbles, the marshmallows, the pure praline spread, the chocolate bars... Among the chocolate bites, special mention for the Grand Léjon, a multi-awarded creation. Alongside the exotic flavours, the Breton region is present with touches of caramel, crêpe dentelle, fleur de sel or buckwheat. New products are released very regularly.

This counter is a real invitation to travel. It's run by Christophe Lemaire, an avid traveler with a passion for spices, who spends two months every winter in search of new gustatory treasures. His beautiful wooden shelves are overflowing with herbs from the four corners of the globe, curries, salts, homemade blends... The proprietor also offers a considerable variety of peppers, his particular weakness. Let yourself be carried away by the black Voatsyperifery from Madagascar. Try the red Hawaiian salt, too, to brighten up your planchas!

In order to adapt to the growing demand, it also markets Bréhat mussels, farmed in the open sea for a minimum of one year, as well as abalone, scallops, Breton lobsters and clams, fished on the Breton coast.
