The aim of the festival is to highlight the role of the Saône-et-Loire region in the abolition of slavery. The festival also tackles the subjects of racism and living together, through music, dance, gastronomy and exhibitions. One of the highlights in 2024 will be Marie-Claude Bottius's recital on opera and her view of "exoticism" in the 19th century.

Read moreThe French VW Bus meeting is one of Europe's biggest gatherings of Combis Wolkswagen... in the smallest village in Saône-et-Loire. Over a long weekend, Chérizet (20 inhabitants year-round) becomes the Combi capital, bringing together 2,000 vehicles and a host of enthusiasts (30,000 visitors at the last event, in 2022). Combi exhibition, Combi cross, flyboard (on the lake) and BMX demonstrations are on the program. Sound and light shows, concerts, hot-air balloon rides and a large children's playground are also planned.

CARNAVAL DE CHALON
Read moreFor ten days at the end of February and the beginning of March, Chalon-sur-Saône vibrates to the rhythm of the "gôniots", the carnival-goers who take over the town. Two large parades on consecutive Sundays are the highlight of the5th largest carnival in France. Decorated floats, papier-mâché heads, marching bands and majorettes from all over the world make their way through the town center, with huge confetti battles everywhere. Other highlights include Carnaband's Show, a musical extravaganza featuring 500 artists from all over Europe, and a huge funfair with over a hundred rides.

Read moreThe Roule ma Poule operation is a day dedicated to cycling organized by the Saône Doubs Bresse tourist office in partnership with the San-Martin cycling club. Three cycling tours are on offer, with approximately 30, 60 or 80 km on the 2024 program. The routes are open to all, for young and old, amateurs and experienced cyclists alike, and are well signposted, with no major difficulties in this generally flat area. Catering and a variety of entertainment round off the day's program, providing a little comfort for the less hardy.
CONFLUENCE EN FÊTE
Read moreEvery year, Confluence en fête celebrates the Saône and Doubs rivers in an original way. In 2024, the program will include nautical activities and educational events linked to the riches of the water: kayak and boat trips (including old sailing ships), diving and model-boat initiations, a jousting tournament, and mechanical surfing (a bit like rodeo, but on a board, on dry land). A water village featuring environmental education and natural heritage awareness players will also be on hand, with plenty of entertainment.
