At the beginning of the 18th century, fishermen's wives sold fish on the Minck, at the foot of the Leughenaer tower and right next to the fishing boats. In 1863, a covered market was built on the Minck. In 1902, a superb building was inaugurated and became the fish market, where the Bazennes (fishermen's wives) boasted the quality of their products. The building did not survive the war, but it is still possible to buy freshly landed fish at unbeatable prices at the aubettes! Four aubettes are regularly open.

The house has been in existence for over a hundred years! The specialty? The Doigts de Jean Bart, well known to the people of Dunkerque. These almond cakes are made with a coffee cream and coated with chocolate. Delicious and ultra greedy! Since then, several versions have been created: peanut praline, fleur de sel, dark chocolate or even violet. The other pastries served here are also worth the detour. Here, we have been brewers since 1752 and, since 2018, 15 members of the family have joined forces to relaunch the activity and perpetuate this tradition of local and artisanal brewing. Their first-born is the "René", a tasty and light blonde. A successful challenge!

Hervé Vermersch is both a breeder and a butcher: a great connoisseur! He runs the store with his wife; his brother manages the farming and breeding. A beautiful family story that represents the short channel and local producers, favored by the establishment. The shop offers beef and regional specialties such as the famous potjevleesch, the beultekase (head pie) and the real Bergues sausage, white, made from pork, very aromatic and spicy. Butchery, delicatessen and catering: you can order everything online.

Here is an institution for all chocolate and fine pastry lovers since 1996. Some customers nostalgic for their childhood also come from far away, taking advantage of a visit to the North, in particular to taste the house speciality: the Saint-Winoc. But the pastry chef also knows how to renew the flavours and offers original creations. Note that the Ferme du Grommendyck offers guest rooms and houses, to spend a peaceful moment in the heart of the countryside and is labelled Bienvenue à la ferme.

Here, golden blondes, amber, brown and special limited edition beers are produced all year round. Michel Dequidt and his wife welcome you in a tastefully refurbished hangar. It is divided into two parts: the one where he receives his visitors and the one where he creates beers with character. Sometimes, the border disappears when he organizes brewing workshops, open to all. He sells his best recipes, but also local products cooked with his beers.

The inhabitants of Cassel are not a little proud! Since 2016, they finally have their local beer. And this amber nectar honors its birthplace since it bears the name of Bière du Reuze, the name of the famous giant of the city of course! At the origin of this beautiful project is Anthony Debailleul, a young passionate brewer. But what is this beer from Cassel like? It is blond, slightly sweet, and based on barley, malt and hops from Flanders that the brewer has carefully selected. And to find out more, don't hesitate to pay a visit.

Between the canals and not far from the North Sea, next to the homonymous theater, there is a new microbrewery, whose beers are already (literally) winning laurels at international competitions, and the new emblem of Dunkirk's legendary creativity: the Brasserie des 4 écluses! Here you can visit with Eric François, brewer and master of the place. The passion and love of a job well done transpire from every pore of his skin and the visit ends with the inevitable tasting... in moderation!
