LEONARDO DA VINCI'S LAST SUPPER
Read moreBy entering the dining of the old Dominican convent, we are facing the most famous fresco of art history, La Cène, da Vinci de Vinci. This fresco (9 m x 5 m), made between 1495 and 1498, represents Jesus to the Apostles the betrayal of one of them. The colours of the Supper did not support the passage of time, because of the technique used by the painter. A great inventor, Leonardo did not paint "a fresco" (fresh) but, in order to modify the work as he pleases, he used on a dry wall a mixture of oil pigments. Twenty years later, moisture and dirt had already altered the masterpiece. The Supper underwent several restorations over the centuries, up to the one that came up nearly twenty years ago and made her splendour and original colours. It should be noted in passing that this restoration has not been unanimous among experts, particularly with regard to the brightness of colours.

THE NAVIGLI AND THE DARSENA
Read moreUntil the th century, the Porta Ticinese district, consisting of a dense network of navigli (canals), was considered the port area of Milan. The Navigli district is one of the most characteristic of Milan. Its bridges and its boxes di ringhiera (typical Milanese houses characterized by internal courtyards surrounded by balconies with flower railings) make us discover the old face of the city, which is now virtually extinct. For the sake of tradition, don't miss a tour at the Vicolo de'Lavandai, a small alley on Naviglio Grande, where you can still see a th century washing machine. In the evening, the Navigli district is very popular with young Milanese people. There are numerous bars, cafés and typical restaurants and, during the summer months, there are bars and terraces along the banks, making Navigli an ideal place for the walk and the dredge.
