The oldest bridge in Verona, the arches and pillars near the left bank remain from the original construction.
This bridge, which spans the Adige River in the northeast of the city, connects the left bank to the Roman Theater. It is the oldest monument in Verona. It was built in 89 B.C., in Valpolicella marble, although unfortunately only the two arches and the two pillars closest to the bank still bear witness to the original construction. The Ponte Pietra, in fact, has suffered successive damages over the centuries. In 1945, in particular, the structure was bombed by the Nazis. It was then rebuilt between 1957 and 1959, using the remains of materials recovered from the river.
