Things to see and do Lorraine

The buildings of the former university of Pont-à-Mousson now house the Marquette college and high school. The Jesuit University of Pont-à-Mousson was created in the 16th century to fight against the spread of Protestant ideas at the time of the Reformation. The name Jacques Marquette of the current building refers to a former student and professor of the University of Pont-à-Mousson. Jacques Marquette is credited with the discovery of the Mississippi River!

Lorrain artist Antoine Doudoux presents in this former farmhouse the remains of the former city of Iron. The social and economic history of the steel basin is described here through various objects. La Grange des Arts also offers crafts and exhibitions in summer.

A former chapter of the canons Saint-Augustin, Autrey has a very beautiful monastic ensemble of the th, th and th centuries. It is the only monastic building in the Vosges that has been almost intact to us. Saint-Hubert Chapel is probably the most beautiful Renaissance monument in the Vosges. Admire its ceiling of caissons and escutcheons stone, its th century chapter hall, its Romanesque arcades and the cloister. This church was born from the initiative of Abbot Stéraient, the predecessor of Autrey, dating back to 1537. In order to ensure their preservation, beautiful stained glass windows had to be taken from the Vitraux Museum and the other from Toledo to the United States.

The municipality of Maxeville-la-Côte has a small built heritage, in the image of its beautiful Neo-Gothic Church and its four pinnacles, or from its fountain to the bucket. But what, perhaps, further inflame the curiosity of its visitors, is its old volcano, culminating at 470 meters above sea level.
