Travel Guide Sancergues

Located in the valley of Vauvise, 40 km from Bourges, Sancergues covers an area of 15 km 2 and houses just over 700 inhabitants. Its history begins in the ninth century, with the construction of a church, by Saint August, Archbishop of Bourges. Then, gradually, the rest of the city formed around the church. Sancergues was originally in the seigneury of Saint-Martin-des-Champs, before gaining his independence. Today, the church Saint-Jacques, built in the xiith and thirteenth centuries, replaces the original church. Due to its long construction, this Saint Martin Church combines two architectural styles. You will discover a choir with Romanesque style and a Gothic style nef. Sancergues is located on the road of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostela, to whom it owes its name.
