Welcome to the capital of fika and... of the potato! This small town of about 27 000 inhabitants, located less than 50 km from Gothenburg, is indeed known to be the one with the highest concentration of cafés per inhabitant in the country. We advise you for example to go to the Esktedts: founded in 1886, it is a real institution! As soon as the weather is nice, you can relax in its beautiful courtyard and taste the best pastries of the city. In 1724, Jonas Alströmer introduced the first edible potato to Sweden in this very city. A campaign to promote its nutritional values and its cultivation method was set up, so that the country's population could become familiar with this newcomer. A more than successful bet when we know that the potato is the staple food of the Swedes since then! The city center of Alingsås is tiny, but charming, and counts, in addition to the small museum of the city, a rather amusing curiosity: a very small museum of old toys (Alingsås Dock & Nallemuseum, Drottningatan 22, open on Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm). Outdoor enthusiasts can take a walk in the Nolhagaviken nature reserve. Located on the shores of Lake Mjörn, it offers beautiful surprises thanks to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including many species of birds.
