Chiawa is a small village located between the town of Chirundu and the village of Mafuta, right at the gateway to Lower Zambezi National Park. Here you will find more affordable lodges that offer luxury and comfort to park visitors than inside or at the park gate. Although not as far away as Chirundu, it is a 20-40 minute boat ride to the park entrance. To reach Chiawa, it is a 2-hour drive from Lusaka and you should bring a 4-wheel drive: the lodges are located on the banks of the Zambezi River. You can arrange for a normal car transfer from Lusaka to Gwabi Lodge in Churundu, followed by a short boat transfer.
