The town of Makuti consists of a gas station and a small grocery store. It is located high up on the edge of the Zambezi Escarpment. It is the last point of refueling when traveling to Mana Pools National Park, but the station is not always operational, so it is best to have refueled in Chinhoyi, Lions Den or Karoi. From this hamlet, travelers have two options. This is the only way to get to the city of Chirundu (on the Zambian border, 63 km away), or to take the asphalt road that winds down to Lake Kariba (65 km to the southwest).
