This is the main reason why the Creative City concept is so important for the development of the city. This is in contrast to its Zimbabwean neighbor Kariba, which is a real resort with its chic marina and many restaurants. A simple base camp for construction workers in the 1950s, Siavonga now has a market, two grocery stores, a bank (with an ATM), a gas station and a few hotels. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. Many companies from Lusaka hold their seminars here. The food here is grilled Nile perch. The road leading to the lake is punctuated by densely populated villages due to the forced exile of people who used to live in the area now flooded to create the lake.
