About 3,500 inhabitants. Mogadouro is a gateway to the Douro International Natural Park. The small rural town is located between Miranda del Douro (via the IC5) and Freixo de Espada À Cinta (via the N221). The Kingdom of Portugal succeeded in conquering this city from the Moors in the 13th century. The castle, now in ruins, was built between 1160 and 1165 by the Templar order. In the surroundings, walk in the serra da castanheira to the north. In the same area, the castle of Penas Roias, also in ruins, was built by the Templars. To the south, try to find the swing of São Cristovão, offering a panoramic view.
