It is the largest community in Catahoula Parish, located at the confluence of the Black, Little, Ouachita and Tensas Rivers. Because of its proximity to wildlife preserves such as Dewey Wills, Jonesville and its surroundings attract fishermen and hunters of all kinds. The Troyville Earthworks, an archaeological site dating from the forestry period, was once located here. It consists of between 9 and 11 mounds built by the Indians who occupied the area from 100 B.C. until the 8th century. One of these mounds reached 25 meters in height, making it the highest in Louisiana and the2nd highest in the country.
