The hamlet of Flørli, accessible only by ferry, has over 100 years of history. Inaugurated in 1918, Flørli was one of Norway's first hydroelectric power stations and a feat of engineering at the time. 119 workers, 28 women and 37 children were registered at Flørli in 1916. Today, two permanent residents remain. Flørli is famous for the world's longest wooden staircase - 4,444 steps that follow the pipeline to the Flørli power station. If you're interested in the history of hydroelectric power, visit the old power station and the exhibition of photos and stories from the construction period.
