This is the eastern part of Carinthia. Sometimes referred to as "Carinthia's paradise", the Lavanttal is a spectacular region bathed for 65 km by the river Lavant, which gives its name to the territory. Tourism is still underdeveloped here, but that's not a bad thing! After all, the lakes, the region's main attractions, are a long way away! The Benedictine abbey at St. Paul im Lavanttal, founded in 1091, is the oldest in the area and still in operation. It is the region's best-known monument.
