Approximately 17,000 inhabitants. The main town in the Mislinja Valley, a tributary of the River Drava, is surrounded by the rivers Suhodolnica and Homšnica. Slovenj Gradec is a melting pot of art. The homeland of the composer Hugo Wolf, the poet Ernest Goll and the sculptor Franc Berneker was appointed spokesman for peace by the UN Secretary General Pérez de Cuellar in 1989. It was not until the 17th century that the city prospered again with the arrival of engravers, gilders, painters and sculptors. Nowadays, its interest lies in visiting the museum, exploring the town centre and discovering the work of the painter Jože Tisnikar.
