25 km south of Plasencia on the C-524. The natural site of Monfragüe is one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. Opened in 1979, it covers more than 500 km² of steep peaks rising to the north, wooded hills, and rivers, the Taje and the Tiétar. Its typically Mediterranean flora is of great ecological interest: holm oaks and cork oaks, arbutus or laurel trees, wild olive trees, broom. Its rich and varied fauna includes a large number of protected species such as mongooses, black vultures, black storks, imperial eagles, wild boars, red deer and Iberian lynx.
