From Juliasdale, take the national road towards Mutare; after about 25 km, the road splits in two: leave the national road and turn left towards Hauna; the road then starts to zigzag and to descend strongly. In less than 20 km, we find ourselves 1 500 m lower, without having forgotten to admire the valley of Honde in the passage. This one unfolds below and is crossed very easily. For travelers without a vehicle, shared cabs up the Honde Valley to Aberfoyle Lodge can be found in Nyanga. The Honde Valley stretches for over 40 km between the Nyanga mountain range and the Mozambican hills. A site of deadly fighting during the war for independence, this remote part of Zimbabwe has a bad reputation and is rarely visited by tourists. The Honde Valley is a botanical and ornithological paradise with a particularly humid climate. Here, when the land is not occupied by beautiful forests brightened by streams, it is resplendent with the soft green of tea and coffee plantations. Considered one of the most fertile regions in Zimbabwe, the Honde Valley is indeed the place of countless crops, which give it a particularly opulent air: cotton, rice, bananas, tomatoes, mangoes, sugar cane ... all foodstuffs that the locals grow from an early age (it is not uncommon for children under ten years old to put their hands to work), taking advantage of the abundant water.
