From this rocky promontory, where a mid-19th century lighthouse stands, magnificent views unfold, especially at sunset. For the Romans, this was the westernmost point on earth, where the world ended: the finis terrae. When they arrived, an altar dedicated to the star king, the Ara Solis, had already been erected by the Celtic tribes of the region. Cape Finisterre is today the end of the journey of the pilgrims of Compostela, who, for the most part, have traveled several hundred kilometers. A ritual now forbidden, the tradition was that the pilgrims burned some clothes and shoes as a sign of renewal
