Located 100 km northeast of Vilnius, the park is renowned for its abundance of lakes: 126 are listed. It also boasts Lithuania's largest lake (Lake Kretuonas at 829 ha) and deepest (Lake Tauragnas at 60.50 m), seven islands and some thirty rivers and streams. In terms of flora and fauna, several endangered plant species are protected in this park, which is also a paradise for numerous animal species: Canadian mink, elk, wild boar, eagles, migratory birds and various lake fish, including pike. This region of lakes will delight water sports enthusiasts and swimmers alike.
