This Kartlian village (not to be confused with that of Djavakhétie), on the foothills of the Trialétie chain, reveals several interesting monuments. Just above the village is the remarkable small chapel of Pavnissi (9th-11th centuries). 2 km above the village, the magnificent church of Ertatsminda, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. After Akhalkalaki, to the west, the small (adjoining) village of Garikhoula preserves a manor house built in the 19th century by a Polish architect. Artists from the Tbilisi Academy of Arts have taken up residence there. Art events, festivals and meetings take place in the Art Villa Garikhoula. For more information on these events, see www.garikula.org.
