Beauly is a village renowned for many reasons. Its name would come from the French "beau lieu", as Mary Queen of Scots would have named it when she discovered it. Its priory is to be discovered, it is a monastic ruin built in 1230 within the town, surrounded by some of the oldest trees in the country. Beauly is also well known to fishing enthusiasts, since the river Beauly, near which the houses are located, is a passage for salmon among the most famous. Trout are also numerous in its waters. Beauly is an interesting alternative for a stopover in the Highlands, a few kilometers from Inverness.
