Halfway between Segovia and Valladolid, this city of nearly 9,600 inhabitants stretches between beautiful pine forests, crossed from east to west by the river Cega. It has kept all its medieval character with its castle and wall, one of the most important in Castilla y León, extending over almost 2,000 metres. A city of Mudejar art, it has preserved magnificent churches and palaces from a time when Christians and Muslims worked together for the splendour of their city. The most outstanding of these is undoubtedly the 13th-century Church of San Martín, which also houses a centre for the interpretation of Mudéjar art.
