Isla Iguana is a 52-hectare island opposite Pedasi. It's an ideal spot for observing the migration of seabirds heading north in November and December, whales between July and October, and turtles that come here to lay their eggs between September and December; for spotting black and green iguanas hiding in the dry forest, and the 5,000 frigate birds that live here; to swim at Playa el Cirial in coral waters that are home to 347 species of colorful fish, and a little further offshore to pods of dolphins; to camp and watch thousands of hermit crabs swarm; to marvel at the spectacle of the fireflies that enliven the nights of this magnificent desert island...The reef is home to 14 species of coral and around a hundred species of fish. During the Second World War, the US Navy tested explosives around the island... Fortunately, most of the decimated coral has been "recovered" in recent years.
