Villalar de los Comuneros is a small historical village of 440 souls attached to Valladolid province in the region of Castile and León. The village, which lives from agriculture, became famous for being the theater of the Battle of Villalar, which took place on April 23, 1521, and marked the end of the wars of the Communities of Castile, uprising led by the Comuneros against Charles Quint Imperial Army. On the Plaza Major bordered by historical buildings, an obelisk erected in honor of the leaders of the Comuneros de Villalar executed after the battle which ended around the village on the site of the Puente «El Fierro» where another memorial was erected. Originally called Villalar, it was not until the beginning of the twentieth century that the village took its present name, while the first day celebrated in memory of the Comuneros was held on April 23, 1889. The Día de los Comuneros has since celebrated every year in the village.
