If Vilafranca is the wine capital, Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (population 12,800) is the cava capital. More than eighty bodegues are located here, accounting for 90% of production. Heirs to a tradition dating back to 1872, when the first bottles of cava were made at Codorniu, these companies have forged what has become the mainstay of the local economy. In the town center, you'll be able to see several examples of modernist architecture, such as the houses designed by the architect Lluís M. Güell or the Santacana Roig industrial building, but it's above all the visit to the Codorniu cellars that's well worth the detour.
