2,935 inhabitants. Nestled at the gates of the Montserrat massif and drained by the waters of the Llobregat river, this small stone village is surrounded by a wild and majestic nature. On the road to the Monastery of Montserrat, after a short stroll through its medieval streets and after having taken a look at the Renaissance-style parish church and the Palau Prioral, representative of Catalan civil Gothic, Monistrol de Montserrat is a good option for a hearty and typical restorative stopover, far from the crowds of the monastery. Near the Monistrol hostel, a beautiful hike, the IP-6 (4 km, 1h30, 659 meters of altitude difference), climbs up to the monastery (avoid the hot hours of the day, because there is only very little shade!). The further along the path, the higher the level of conglomerate increases, like so many natural stairs to climb. However, the stretches of lutite or sandstone provide flatter surfaces for walkers before the typical rocks of Montserrat Mountain become omnipresent.
