A small community in the Kawarthas, it is known for its golf course, Viamede Resort (a favourite of couples and families) and Petroglyphs Provincial Park, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of carvings by Aboriginal people in Canada. Carved into a white marble facade hundreds of years ago, the 900 or so petroglyphs depict turtles, snakes, birds and humans. Trails wind through the surrounding forests, wetlands and rocky ridges. However, the site is only open during the day, with no on-site camping available.
