Part of the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, this rural community is located on the Niagara Escarpment, bordering the river and facing the American town of Lewiston. It is known as the home of Canadian heroine Laura Secord, who walked 32 kilometres to warn the British of a surprise attack during the Anglo-American War of 1812. It was during this same war that the Battle of Queenston Heights took place, one of the most famous battles. A national historic site is dedicated to this battle, which can be visited from May to October.
