Like every city in Bangladesh, Sylhet is crossed by a river, La. This city of 480 000 inhabitants is surrounded by green tea plantations and undulating hills. Considered to be the spiritual capital of Bangladesh, the city hosts an important Sufi community. Here, women are veiled more than elsewhere, the younger ones hanging her into Malaysia to give themselves style. The city attracts many worshippers who come to the tomb of Shah Jalal, a man who introduced Islam into Bangladesh in the th century. Sylhet is also famous for its diaspora. It is alleged that every family in the city has at least one of its members who work in London. The capital of Britain has 285 000 Bangladeshi people in the Sylhet region, 95% of the diaspora. These emigrants participate greatly in the development of the city by sending money to their families. As a result, Sylhet has a prosperous face with residential neighbourhoods, large cars and modern infrastructure that contrast with many other cities across the country.
