The small village of Paharpur, 69 km west of Bogra, welcomes the ruins of Somapura Mahavihara, a unique Buddhist architectural ensemble dating back to the end of the th century. This large «monastery», inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage, is the largest and most spectacular monument to Bangladesh. He influenced the simplicity of his lines and the rich reliefs of Buddhist architecture throughout Southeast Asia, to Cambodia and Indonesia. The environs of Paharpur have other Buddhist vestiges of lesser importance and the state of ruins. Archaeologists believe that many of the sites have not yet been updated in this region.
