A hundred kilometres north of Dhaka, Mymensingh is a small, quiet town with ancient colonial buildings and houses one of the country's most beautiful cities. Nestled in a bend of the ancient Brahmaputra, the main bed of the river changed its route in the th century to the west. Once the jute capital, the economy is now turned to fish and shrimp farming in local markets. The city is also famous for its jilapi, fried pulp and drowned in sugar syrup that is eaten hot with fish. Mymensingh hosts many higher education institutions, including the Bangladesh University of Agriculture. If you want to visit the north of the country, you will certainly make Mymensingh your base camp. Here are the best hotels in the region.
