In this colonial village nicknamed the "white city", located on the banks of the Golden River (Río de Oro), 9 km west of Bucaramanga, life revolves around two squares. Its cobbled streets, churches, small bridges and colonial buildings with whitewashed facades make it an interesting stop. Many inhabitants of Bucaramanga come to walk there on Sundays, and the restaurants and ice cream sellers are delighted. On December 26, the feast of San Benito, the patron saint of black slaves in the past, is celebrated. Like Socorro and San Gil, Girón played an important role in the wars of independence. Its winding cobblestone streets and flower-filled houses are reminiscent of old Spanish towns. The Capilla Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, the Calicanto bridges, the Basílica Menor San Juan Bautista and the Parques Peralta and de las Nieves are worth seeing.
