Herrera de Pisuerga (2 000 inhabitants) is a former Roman city known as Pisoraca. The site was occupied by the legion IV Macedonica towards the year 25 BC, under the reign of Auguste, during military operations in the campaign against the Cantabres. You can see vestiges of this Roman past on the city's Plaza Mayor. Known for its crab festival (the first weekend of August), Herrera de Pisuerga is also the starting point for nice boat walks along the canal de Castilla.
