During his first visit in 1517, Charles V was received with great pomp by the local nobility. On his return in 1522, he visited the tomb of Bernardo del Carpio, a knight made famous by his bravery in the battle of Roncesvalles, whose sword he took with him. Heading south on the N-611, 6 km away, you will find a fork in the road to the rock hermitage of Olleros de Pisuerga. In Corvio, you can see the 13th-century church of Santa Juliana, a little way from the village. In Rueda de Pisuerga, make a detour to San Cebrian de Muda for the murals in its Romanesque church.
