Included in Jefferson Parish, Grand Isle is a seaside community located on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. It is accessible by Route 1 and a toll is required in Leeville on the way to Port Fourchon and Grand Isle (US$3 per car). The area is home to some of the few beaches in Louisiana and is also a major fishing destination. In fact, every summer, the famous Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo is held, a very popular fishing contest. However, due to its location, Grand Isle has often been hit by hurricanes over the years. In 2021, Ida devastated the community almost entirely, but the residents are resilient and rebuilding is well underway.
