Kinniya, 17 kilometers south of Trincomalee, is the first major village on the road south along the coast. There is a luxury resort run by the Air Force and a beautiful beach on the China Bay side. Kinniya is a small and pleasant town with more than 60,000 inhabitants, most of whom are immigrants from Morocco, Java, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The population is therefore mainly made up of Moors (96%), mostly of Muslim persuasion. The only attractions of Kinniya are the big bridge leading to the village and its big mosque. You will also see many fishing boats, the main activity of the city.
