This village is located south of Maduru Oya National Park, where a large part of the vedda people have settled since 1983. Foreign tourists who regularly visit the village are increasingly mingled with Sri Lankans curious to discover those who were the pioneers of their civilization. The village of Dambana now has an estimated 250 families and nearly 980 people (while the total Vedda population is estimated at less than 2,500 individuals on the island). Ecotourism has been part of the village's activities for several years. The nearest town is Mahiyangana where every year in September, a big celebration (Mahiyangana Perahera) brings together the different tribes.
