Near Exit 172 of I-44, on the road leading to Jerome and then Dixon (State Highway D), stood the Stony Dell Resort, a famous entertainment venue built in 1932, where military personnel from the Fort Leonard Wood base flocked. Its success lasted until 1946 and the detour of Route 66 by I-44. Nothing remains today, except for a few ruins lost in the vegetation. It is also on this road that you can see the remains of Larry Baggett's Trail of Tears Memorial, which marks the entrance to a private property. This picturesque path has been restored several times following acts of vandalism.
