Rising north of Flagstaff, the "Sunset Crater" erupted around 1,000 years ago. Two of them, Bonito Flow - 2.5 km - and Kana-a Flow - 9.6 km - are particularly visible today. The surrounding area is made up of ash and projections from the explosion. The 340 m-high cone of the Sunset Crater still produces spectacular black lava flows.
