Laguna was founded in 1699. This small community of 500 inhabitants, along with neighboring Mesita, Paguate, Seama, Paraje and Encinal, forms the Laguna Pueblo, the newest of the 19 pueblos in New Mexico. The language spoken here is Keres. Each community in the pueblo celebrates its own holiday and on September 19, all the villages celebrate the feast of St. Joseph. The church in Laguna, the San Jose Mission, also dates from 1699. It is extremely well preserved. When driving through the Laguna Pueblo Land, you must strictly observe the local prohibitions on the use of cameras, audio recording and access to private property, which means staying on the main road
