Sandia Park is not on Route 66. It will only be crossed by those who have chosen to take the Turquoise Trail which connects Santa Fe to Albuquerque from the east. From there, it is 13 miles to Sandia Crest, which culminates at 3 255 m (10,000 ft). This peak is the highest peak in the Sandia Mountains, a mountain range at the southern end of the Rockies that is part of the Sandia-Manzano Mountains. The peak can be reached by the Sandia Crest Road (NM-356) or, from Albuquerque, by the Sandia Peak Tramway. The Sandia Mountains are home to much of the Cibola National Forest, which is also crossed by the Sandia Crest Road.
