With more than 3,200 souls, Castletown was for a long time the island's capital until Douglas took over. This small port has nevertheless kept its character and is one of the most charming places in the Manx region. Its superb fortified castle dominates the quayside sailing boats and a multitude of colourful houses. There's like an air of Brittany in British soil. There is still the former Manx parliament, The Old House of Keys.Port-St-Mary and Port-Erin are Victorian seaside resorts west of the city. Both have a long walk on the beach and are arched with high cliffs. They are home to most of the B&Bs in the area and are the starting point for a few delightful hikes. In Port-Erin, a trail leads to the tip of Bradda Head, where you can climb Milner's Tower and enjoy fantastic views.Sound of Man: it is probably the most famous natural site with Snaefell. At the southern end of the region, the hikes facing the island of Calf of Man are unforgettable. Visitors welcome, coffee and free parking.
