Inaugurated in 1956, it is the last English national park before Scotland. It stretches over 1 050 km ² between the Scottish border and Hadrian's wall. It's relatively little known but has absolutely sumptuous scenery. The Montagneuse mountain range, which crosses half of England from the Midlands, completes its road in the Cheviots Mountains, culminating in 815 metres. Its northern part is occupied by the Kielder Forest, the largest artificial forest in the country at the heart of which a lake of 10 km ² is located, the Kielder Reservoir. In 2013, the entire region received the status of "Dark Sky Park", rewarding its lack of light pollution and the quality of its nights to observe the stars. It is the largest protected area of its kind in Europe. You will find it difficult to find accommodation in the most isolated areas of the park, it is the least populated in England with only 2 000 inhabitants. Instead, orient yourself to Hadrian's wall, which is also the main tourist office.
