On the banks of the Firth of Forth, Queensferry takes its name from Queen Margaret who established a river link between the two sides of the estuary. This continued until 1964, when the road bridge was inaugurated and opened to cars. It was the second to link Lothian to the Kingdom of Fife, after the famous Forth Bridge, a dapper red colossus reserved for rail traffic. Completed after 8 years of work in 1890, it required 55,000 tons of steel and is classified by Unesco. In 2017, a third building, the Queensferry Crossing, was completed and spans the waters of its 2,700 m. The city is also famous for its beautiful homes.
