Located in the northwestern Berkshires, Williamstown is only a few kilometers from Vermont and New York State. The town was founded in 1749 to limit the advance of the Dutch colonies in what is now New York State. Today, the town is peaceful and preserves the traces of the first settlers, with its old buildings and wide lawns. With its white steeple standing out against the surrounding forests, it offers picturesque panoramas. Williams College, dating back to 1793, still attracts crowds of students from all over the East Coast, as does the Clark Art Institute, a first-rate museum.
